ANDY COCKBAIN

ABOUT ME

Mr Cockbain is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, and Spire Hospital Roundhay.  His practice focusses on weight loss surgery (bariatrics), the treatment of gallstones and hernias, and surgery for patients with hiatal hernias and acid reflux.

He specialises in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery and has pioneered the introduction of robotic surgery for cancer, weight loss, and anti-reflux surgery in Leeds.

He is an integral member of the Leeds weight-loss multi-disciplinary team, and is a strong patient advocate.  He believes in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and will take the time to discuss different treatments and help you to make the choices best suited to your individual needs.

TRAINING

Mr Cockbain qualified from Leeds Medical School and completed his surgical training in the Yorkshire region.  He took time out to complete a Doctoral thesis, investigating the effects of omega-3 fish oils on the treatment of cancer.  This work led to an ongoing national multi-centre research study.

He undertook a prestigious training fellowship in Adelaide, Australia, before the irresistible draw of the British countryside brought him back to Leeds to start work as a Consultant.  He has since undertaken further advanced training in robotic surgery in Germany and Belgium.

AWAY FROM WORK

Mr Cockbain is happiest when enjoying the great outdoors with his wife and two young boys. He enjoys walking, climbing, skiing and a range of watersports.  His bike fitness needs some work though!
